Montreal Neighborhoods with the Best Public Transit

Neighborhoods with the Best Metro Access
Ville-Marie (downtown) is the undisputed transit champion, with access to all four metro lines and virtually every major bus route. Le Plateau-Mont-Royal is served by the orange line (Sherbrooke, Mont-Royal, Laurier stations) and sits within easy reach of the green line. Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie benefits from multiple blue and orange line stations, including the Rosemont and Beaubien stops.
CDN–NDG is well-positioned with orange line stations (Snowdon, Villa-Maria, Vendôme) and the blue line at Côte-des-Neiges. Verdun gained a significant boost from the green line extension, with Verdun and De l'Église stations providing direct downtown access in under 15 minutes.
Bus Frequency and Bike Infrastructure
Metro access is only part of the picture. The STM's 10-minute-max network covers key corridors along Saint-Michel, Pie-IX, Côte-des-Neiges, and Jean-Talon — so living along these routes means reliable service even between metro stations. For cyclists, the Plateau, Rosemont, and Verdun have the densest networks of protected bike lanes, and BIXI stations are most concentrated in these areas.
Transit Improvements Coming in 2026
The REM light rail has transformed transit for residents of Brossard and the West Island, with stations at Gare Centrale, Griffintown, and the airport. The planned blue line extension will eventually improve access for residents of Saint-Léonard and Anjou. If you're planning a long-term move, these infrastructure investments could boost property values in underserved areas.
