Montreal Festivals & Events: Year-Round Calendar

Winter & Spring: Igloofest, Montréal en Lumière & More
Montreal's festival season does not wait for warm weather. Igloofest (January–February) packs the Jacques-Cartier Pier with thousands of bundled-up electronic music fans dancing in the snow — one-piece snowsuits are practically mandatory. Montréal en Lumière (February–March) combines fine dining events, outdoor light installations on the Place des Festivals, and Nuit Blanche, an all-night art crawl with free metro service until 3 a.m.
As the snow melts, MURAL Festival (June) transforms Saint-Laurent Boulevard into an open-air gallery with live mural painting, street art, and music. Francofolies (June) celebrates French-language music from Quebec and the francophone world with free outdoor stages on Sainte-Catherine. These spring festivals mark the shift from indoor survival mode to Montreal's legendary outdoor season.
Summer: Jazz Fest, Just for Laughs & Osheaga
The Montreal International Jazz Festival (late June–early July) is the world's largest jazz festival, with over 500 concerts — most of them free on outdoor stages around the Quartier des Spectacles. Even if jazz is not your thing, the atmosphere on the Place des Arts esplanade on a warm July evening is unforgettable. Just for Laughs / Juste pour rire (July) fills theatres and outdoor venues with comedians from around the world, including surprise street performances.
Osheaga (early August) is Montreal's flagship music festival, held on Île Sainte-Hélène with headliners spanning rock, hip-hop, and indie. The same weekend, Piknic Électronik runs outdoor Sunday DJ sets in Parc Jean-Drapeau — a standing ritual since 2003. The Montreal World Film Festival and Fantasia Film Festival round out summer with cinematic programming you cannot find anywhere else in North America.
Fall & Holiday Season: POP, Fashion & Christmas Markets
POP Montreal (September) is an indie music and art festival spread across Mile End and the Plateau, with shows in churches, lofts, and dive bars. It captures the city's creative underground better than any other event. Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (October) screens cutting-edge international film and digital art. Montreal Fashion Week draws the local design scene to venues around the Quartier des Spectacles.

As temperatures drop, the Marché de Noël at Place Jacques-Cartier and the Village de Noël de l'Atrium 1000 fill Old Montreal with mulled wine, artisan gifts, and holiday cheer. The Botanical Garden's Gardens of Light (September–October) and the illuminated holiday displays at Place Ville Marie bridge fall into winter beautifully. In Montreal, there is truly something happening every single month.
